Spiny Poems

We made spiny poems. We did it by finding four ordinary books, putting them together, and made a poem. Some of the poems are silly and some are various. Here the poems are,“ The Frog Prince is Falling For Rapunzel The Owl and The Pussy-Cat Hop on Pop.”, “Tikki Tikki Tembo You Read to Me, I Read to You Just a Few More Words, Mr.Lincoln Pigs Make Me Sneeze.”, “ Flat Stanley I Spy There is A Bird On Your Head Bear Feels Scared.”,
“Emperor Penguins Giving Thanks As Long As The River Flows Today I Will Fly.”

Our poems may be spiny, but our visitors we’re big and tiny. So a thank you to the frog, rapunzel, and pussy cat. Without you we don’t know where we would be at!

Our Second Fabulous Friday

Everybody enjoyed the book and passed the quiz. We also are playing games that help us practice graphing, place value, and counting money. Seven kids earned a swimming trip because they passed at least 2 RC quizzes, went to Summer School 2 times, and turned in their reading checklists. We will be eating a picnic lunch at the beach. We also had to jog and walk around the field 3 times. We also had snack. It was very good we had to have a whole wheat bagel and different veggies with cream first . Then u pick your veggies then u bring it to your table and make your face. There were lots of fun and crazy faces. We had a lot of fun on the first day of summer school.

Flat Stanley Visits Nett Lake

Careful with that hammer!

Thanks to Sophia and her 4th grade class from Rochester, IL, Flat Stanley “flew” into Nett Lake in mid-April. He spent time at the Lasley’s house helping with sugar bush. He also went to church and to Duluth during a snowstorm! In addition, students from the ECFE class all the way through 6th grade were able to either spend time with Stanley in class or eat breakfast and lunch with him. He watched Tea, Troie, and Jessi make braille plates. Chelsea made a birchbark etching that told the story of Stanley’s visit to Nett Lake. All in all, it was great having Stanley here. I guess there are advantages to having a bulletin board fall on you and flatten you!

BOOK FAIR BONANZA!

Wahoo! We got free books from the book fair!

Thanks to everyone in our community and school, our annual Scholastic Book Fair was a big success! Word has it that James Dean was seen handing out invites. Then there was the sighting of some roller skating beauties gliding through the “Cube Farm”, HeadStart, and the Clinic handing out even more invitations to the fair. Over the course of  5 days,  we gave 20 books to students and volunteers who worked by taking RC quizzes or took a shift in working at the fair. In addition, LIEC money was provided for every student in the school. The grand total in sales for our book fair:  $3,014.56!!  Figuring in the Scholastic profit equation, we will be able to add a large amount of new books to our library. Chi Mii Gwetch!

BOOK FAIR 2010

Our annual book fair kicks off Monday, Feb. 8 from 3:00-5:00pm.  It runs through Friday, Feb. 12th from 11am to 1pm.

Students can earn a free book by taking RC quizes. For each quiz they pass from Jan. 1 – Feb. 11, their name goes in a daily drawing for a free book from the book fair. It’s an easy way to earn a book!

We Love Our Orr Braves!

Best Buddies!000_0941

Everyone enjoyed a visit from the football and volleyball players from Orr. The student/athletes ate lunch with Nett Lakers and then rotated between classes reading stories to each class. Everyone also enjoyed a great question/answer time. Our students asked some good questions about what school is like in Orr and they received some helpful information and advice. It was a great way to start our Christmas break spending the afternoon with friends!
